St. Albans Biomass Facility . . .
What is proposed?
Navitas’ current project is to build a renewable energy facility at an existing composting site in Potters’ Crouch, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
This biomass plant will recover up to 60,000 tonnes of wood per annum and generate approximately 6mw of green electricity to be supplied to the National Grid, providing sufficient carbon-neutral energy to power the equivalent of several thousand homes.

How will it work?
The feedstock for the St. Albans project will be mixed wood waste sourced primarily from Hertfordshire, which will help reduce the county's reliance on landfill. The processing and recycling of the wood prior to it entering the plant will be undertaken on the St. Albans site reducing transport costs, movements and associated pollution. The green power produced will be exported through a direct connection to the national grid system to minimise transmission losses.
AMEC Earth & Environmental Limited, one of the UK’s leading environmental and engineering consulting organisations, are the leading project consultants for this development. AMEC have exemplary experience with power and environmental projects.
Standardkessel Baumgarte is one of the leading energy plant suppliers in the world and it will be supplying Navitas with the main power plant. The commissioning and operation of the plant will be project managed in a joint venture between Navitas Environmental and Standardkessel Baumgarte.
How do I find out more?
Navitas Environmental ran a series of public exhibition days early July 2009 to inform local residents and businesses of the plans. Visitors had the opportunity to meet the team and provide feedback on the project which will help shape the planning application.
