Public exhibitions to showcase plans for 'green' energy project

Plans to build a state-of-the-art 'green' electricity generator at an existing composting site at Potters Crouch are under way, with the aim of producing clean electricity from recovered wood.

The company behind the new biomass project, Navitas Environmental, is running a series of public exhibition days to inform local residents and businesses of the plans. Residents and local community groups near the site in Appspond Lane are being invited to attend the exhibition on 9, 10 and 11 July and the project team welcomes all members of the public to come along and discuss the plans.

Navitas Environmental Director, Mike Pusey, said: "The proposed plant represents a fantastic opportunity for Navitas to be part of the drive to reduce the UK's carbon footprint. We are really keen to engage with the local community and stakeholders to explain the project and listen to their ideas. This feedback will be invaluable for putting together our planning application."

Recovered wood will be sourced primarily from Hertfordshire as a fuel for the facility, generating around 6MW of electricity, with plans to distribute this to the National Grid. The plant would be able to power the equivalent of several thousand homes. Once in operation, it is estimated that a total of 16 jobs will be created to help run the business, as well as up to 100 indirect jobs.

The exhibition will take place on the site in Appspond Lane, Potters Crouch, St Albans AL2 3NL, on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 July from 2pm to 8pm, and on Saturday 11 July from 10am to 2pm. For more information, log on to www.navitasenvironmental.co.uk or call 0845 526 7788.
